Reaching Our Changing World for Christ

The Quilt Ministry

     Our 10,000th Quilt

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Quilt Ministry is mainly two-fold: to provide free covering to people in need and to provide a place for people to come together to work and pray for the good of others. We are an outreach ministry.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
Never say no – to someone who wants to donate something, to a person or group needing quilts, or to a group wanting to set up their own quilt ministry. (We do not sell, or give quilts for an individual’s request.)

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
The Quilt Ministry is a mission action group under WMU. We have one representative on the WMU Council to integrate our activities with other WMU activities and keep them informed of what we are doing. We are a budget item under WMU.

The Quilt Ministry is guided by a Council, which is made up of selected members representing the major areas involved in quilt making. The Council should meet as needed to evaluate the Ministry. They should meet before the new quilting year starts in September to discuss the plans for the New Year, and ways to encourage new people to join. Each council member should train someone to do her job that shows interest in that area of expertise. Prayer and the leadership of the Holy Spirit should guide the selection of the Council members.

The Quilt Ministry meets each Tuesday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, from September through May. The Tuesday between Christmas and New Year’s is usually taken off, and other Tuesdays as agreed upon by the members. If there is no school in the WSFC schools on a Tuesday because of bad weather, there will be no quilting on that Tuesday. During the summer, the Quilt Ministry will meet the second Tuesday of each month, (or as decided each specific year).

SPIRITUAL STRUCTURE:
The Quilt Ministry prayer time is important in focusing the group on the mission of the ministry; and in drawing members closer together under God. Sharing what is going on in our lives outside of the time spent together makes us aware of God’s movement in our lives. This also provides an opportunity for us to help in other ways through WMU mission action projects. Sharing and prayer time should be held weekly.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT:

Donations will be used for projects as needed.
