It was in the Samford University Chapel that the farm-fresh young man, for the first time heard “O Holy Night” sung. It was one of many first time experiences. He came to know that God is a “God of firsts.”
Isaiah 44:6-8 says: “Our God is truly a unique God of firsts. This is a profound element of who He is, His identity.”
Because of this he is continually providing firsts…new and fresh ways to experience him. You see, there is nothing stagnant about life in his kingdom. This sets us free, in submission to him, to seek his kingdom and righteousness about all else in life.
The farm fresh fella marveled at the sound and its meaning. And, still, each day blesses us with the joy of belonging to this Lord of firsts.
“Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the morning, praise for them springing
Fresh from the word.”
